This was my very first webcam. The one that was placed on my monitor when I was volunteering at Manassas National Battlefield Park

Suprisingly enough, when I was writhing this page in February 2008, and looking for information on this camera on the Internet, I found several new boxed ones for sale on Amazon.com

In early 2007 I was rummaging through a storage box and came across this camera. Last week I decided to see if I could get it working again just for the fun of it.

I was able to get it to run under Windows XP but only with the software that came with the camera. My various webcam programs couldn't access the drivers. I finally got my old version of Conquer Cam to see the camera under Windows 98 on an old Pentium computer.

When I first fired up the camera the image was completely fuzzed out. I spent some time tearing the camera apart and finally got down to the insides. I found the infrared filter was coated with a thick layer of something I couldn't identify. The layer washed off easily and then the camera worked as if it were new. I believe the layer was from numerous repeated condensation events, depositing dust and pollutants on the filter.
